Cooking Through "The Baker's Man": Oreo Truffles

Poet Pablo Neruda wrote, “Laughter is the language of the soul.” When was the last time you laughed? Can you remember when you last laughed so hard that your face and your stomach ached, when tears rolled down your cheeks?

If you can’t immediately recall when laughter burst from your smile, then you need to stop by Bea’s Bakery in Mystic Water and order at least a half dozen Oreo truffles.

If you haven’t closed your eyes, leaned back your head, and felt a laugh rise from deep in your belly, felt a laugh so big you couldn’t contain it, then you might want to order a dozen Oreo truffles.

Anna from The Baker’s Man makes these truffles on a weekly basis for those of us who feel trapped beneath rain clouds, whose feet have begun to drag, who stare out windows lost in thoughts bluer than a sapphire.

Oreo Truffles
Serves: 48 (or 1 person who doesn’t want to share)
Level of Difficulty: Easy, although difficult to stop eating

Ingredients
36 Oreo cookies, finely crushed, divided
1 pkg.  (8 oz.) cream cheese, softened
Semi-sweet, dark, or white chocolate, broken into pieces and melted

How to Make
  1. Mix cream cheese and cookie crumbs until blended.
  2. Shape into 48 (1-inch) balls.
  3. Freeze for 10 min.
  4. Melt chocolate in 30-second intervals until completely melted. Dip truffles in melted chocolate; place on waxed paper-covered rimmed baking sheet.
  5. Refrigerate for 1 hour or until firm.

The Baker's Man can be purchased in paperback or for the Kindle from Amazon and for the NOOK through Barnes & Noble.
